Thinking outside the...house...

My posts are so sporadic these days, I must apologize. I wish I could post every day, but, I just don't find the inspiration lately. Does this happen to you? Well, let's start the weekend here with some thoughts for the patio, backyard, front porch etc...we are always talking and posting about interior design, but how about exterior design for a change?

I am still on the hunt for a sweet and small table and chair set for my cottage.  It is for the front of the house where I used to have my picnic table (that rotted and I had removed late last summer). This year I am going to rent my house, hopefully from June-November, possibly longer. I am looking for long term tenants that will take care of the house.  Is this possible? I hope so! Anyone out there who might want to live for six (6) months in the lakes region in Maine?  Please send me a note (monacointeriors76@yahoo.com) if you or someone you know does!!

The perfect curtains...

I have been searching for months for the perfect curtains for my bedroom. I already have great curtains, but they are old and I would like to update the room with new window treatments. I am looking for a blue and white pattern with cotton mix, or 100% cotton. So far, IKEA is the only store that has anything remotely similar to what I'm looking for, in excellent price ranges. Other options are big box stores like KMart, Wal-Mart or Target. Oh, and I don't want to spend a fortune!!

The current blue and white check curtains...

IKEA Bomull tie backs for $19.99 per pair...(100% cotton)

IKEA Gronska Prickar at $12.99 per pair...little blue and white polka dots - LOVE! I think these are winning...love the color and pattern...and the price! (70% poly/30% cotton)

IKEA Henny curtains for $39.99 per pair has matching bed textiles - these were initially my first choice...I could get the other Henny products to go with these. (58% cotton/42% linen)

Close-up of the Henny curtains...

IKEA's Lummig curtain rod set for $14.99 in white or black...something simple...

IKEA certainly offers great pricing and I love that they sell curtains in pairs, not per panel. Another option would be IKEA's simple white canvas blinds and forgo the curtains. I only have 2 windows to cover, but it is very tricky finding the right patterns and colors.  An important note is that one window is close to a wall, so I have to be careful what curtain rods I choose. What do you think? Any preference or suggestions?

Hope you have a great Monday!!

Saturday in the kitchen...

Check this out...IKEA cabinets so its not an outrageously expensive design, but still looks like it is. I don't know about you, but I am really loving those nifty little chairs as the 'oomph' to the room - would you add black chairs in this sleek kitchen or would you choose a punchy color?

Fabulous Fabric Fridays...IKEA inspiration...

IKEA has some fabulous fabrics and since I featured IKEA in my Green Scene column, I thought I would highlight some of their versatile fabrics...above is a modern take on a quilt...great for a kids room or even as a wall hanging...

Check out this fab bag - its only $1.99 - can you believe it? how great would this look at the beach or at the grocery store??

For a baby's room, these sweet curtains could work for a little boy or a little girl's room...adorable...

My favorite - POLKA DOTS! I love, love them! and this fabric is only $4.99/yard...wow! the colors are so rich...

This is a very modern pillow cover with chic global appeal...this would look great in a room with an eclectic style...

The great thing about IKEA, is that if you don't live near a store, you can shop online...visit http://www.ikea.com/ for a lot more fabric design inspiration and great prices...have fun!! which fabric/design appeals to you?

The Green Scene...IKEA Norden Series...

The Norden Gateleg Table

It was inevitable that I would mention IKEA in my weekly column...not only are the prices unbelievable, but the quality will not let you down. Make no mistake...this store is huge in Europe and should be bigger here.  Open any European design magazine and you will find IKEA furniture, accessories and textiles in homes big and small. I love how adaptable their products are. The Norden series is amazing and I wanted to share this with you from the website:  this series is built from the "knotty top part of the birch tree" and was introduced in 1998...they were the first to think of doing this instead of "burning it as firewood or grinding it for chipboard production." I love this 'green' story...below are the finished eco-friendly products...
