Spectacular room...

This room is so beautiful, I would love to just repose here for the day wouldn't you? I found this on My Scandinavian Home blog via This is Paper- totally dreamy for a leisurely Saturday! You must see the whole house, I can't stop looking at it. It is in Finland - Enjoy the view -

Best of MI...Rafael de Cardenas...

I absolutely love this designer's work and was so taken with the purple in this design, I think you will be too, even if its not your favorite. He used textures, sparkles and glamour to up the beauty quotient in this spectacular New York apartment.  What do you like? Do you love the purple? Would you use it or would you use a different color?  Happy Sunday!!

BEST OF MI FROM 2010:

When I first saw this designer featured in the October 2008 Elle Decor, I couldn't believe how beautiful purple could look. Never my favorite color, that all changed upon viewing this gorgeous apartment in New York. I was blown away by the colors, mid-century modern furniture, vintage wallpaper and unusual accessories. I studied the pictures for every detail. Take a look at these photos and tell me which one is your favorite!

Vintage wallpaper and a 60's vintage Italian lamp above...

The living room features a vintage sofa found on eBay, vintage '50's armchairs with Donghia fabric, vintage lucite and glass coffee table (LOVE!) and a '50's floor lamp. What a wonderful mix of fabrics in here too.

More vintage wallpaper and chaise and a stool by Marcel Wanders for Kartell.

For me, the foyer sets the tone of the apartment with the designer's own mural, a Dorothy Draper lamp and mid-century side table. The chair is circa 1940's. Look at that fabric!

For something completely different as far as color goes, the master bedroom features more vintage wallpaper from Secondhand Rose in New York, a vintage Florence Knoll bench and quilts from Calypso Home.
Do you like purple in a scheme? Do you like the way the designer used wallpaper?

Mid-century modern faucets...

I had a customer in the showroom today who is overhauling a mid-century modern ranch home with authentic furniture, carpets and wall treatments. She is looking for a lavatory faucet and tub/shower system that will go with the style of the home and these are my suggestions - what do you think? Agree or disagree?

Symmons Oxford

Symmons Oxford 8" widespread faucet

Kohler Margaux single handle faucet

Kohler Margaux 8" widespread faucet with lever handles

Kohler Margaux tub + shower trim with lever handle

Moen Eva 8" widespread faucet
All are in chrome -

I love all of them, but particularly the Symmons Oxford and the Margaux widespread - they are so stylish and definitely have that mid-century vibe.

Saturday in the kitchen...

I have a confession to make...I have recently been hooked on the 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' calling it my guilty pleasure, so I think I have warm, sunny places on the brain (we are buried in snow here)...i.e., sunny Southern California.  So, I couldn't resist a beautiful kitchen in Beverly Hills courtesy of Kohler's Idea Home with full photos on the website here.  Take me away!

I love this glam look - mirrored tiles with the gorgeous Karbon faucet...

So sleek and shiny...all silver and white...

You can't beat this view out the windows!

I love the shot of green chairs outside...the kitchen and house was designed by Erinn Valencich and it is stunning...

Dream house...found...!

Ok, I was slightly obsessed with my hand built (in Vermont) doll's house when I was little, so I was thrilled to see this in the new issue of Elle Decor this month.  I had to look it up and of course, blog about it here...so enjoy!

The Emerson House - Mode Doll's House...my modern dream home complete with LED lighting, mitered-glass corners, fireplaces and solar panels!

Oh! and it comes with sliding glass doors...

And check out those fab wood floors!

The Bennett House...

This is the Bennett House and will be available in spring 2011...

Influenced by the De Stijl movement, this is a townhouse that has solar panels, elevator, a rooftop pool and LED lights powered by the sun or moon...large windows show the 'weight and thickness of the structure.' The house 'emphasizes lines, squares and rectangles in asymmetrical patterns while minimizing color.' Is that a sparkling chandelier I see in the living room above???

Another view...the attention to detail is gorgeous...notice the glass railings...

This is too much...you can also purchase furniture for both houses - all modern and all made with non-toxic materials so it can be enjoyed without harming people or the environment...

By the by, my little doll's house had real carpet in the living room, each room was wallpapered and lace curtains hung in every window...oh how I loved it and still do...though, it is in storage and I must get it out soon to refurnish it! It is purple with green trim - hmmm, maybe I should repaint it???

For more information about these amazing structures including cost go here - maybe someone special on your list will get one of these??

Retro modern...

I love it when a designer takes a simple home like a 1950's ranch and turns it into a spectacular design showcase! Taking something and turning it into something so unexpected...that is what this month's Elle Decor features with designer Mikhail Dantes. He took a 50's Denver ranch and made it into a completely different home...So inspiring and unbelievable!

Ugh, this shower is fab...do you like simple homes turned into chic retreats? I think it really showcases a designer's creativity...making the designer work within some limitations and really coming up with great ideas...thinking outside the box - and that is always inspiring...

Saturday in the kitchen...

This kitchen looks like it belongs in a cool mid-century modern ranch house...the warm wood, the beams and the stone floor look so cool. The counter tops are poured concrete, love that. The yellow of the wood adds even more sunshine warmth don't you think? Do you like this style? Would you consider poured concrete for your counters??

Modern love...

Are you interested in modern furniture? or are you a traditional person? or perhaps antiques? french country? I have to admit, it is hard to choose just one style to live with. The ideal would be to live in different homes that you could decorate in different styles. I would love to live in a really modern house with lots of glass and no knick-knacks! So I thought I would post some pictures from 'CB2' - I just got the catalog today and it got me thinking how these styles are so very 'Mad Men' and very '70's...orange chairs and shag rugs make me think of 'The Brady Bunch' but it has become so much more now. It is an aesthetic that many continue to embrace. So, enjoy! Above is the 'Parlour Chair' in Fresh Tangerine...

I love these acrylic tables...Peekaboo Clear Nesting Tables

Odyssey White Dining Table...looks like a Saarinen...

Latitude Low Dresser...mid-century modern influence...

Parlour Sofa...the lines of this sofa are gorgeous...

Marimekko Wall Hanging...

Firefly Pendant Lamp...

Double Decker Bed...

Lounge Natural Shag Rug...

This is only a little bit of what CB2 offers...its fun to look at all the retro cool stuff...hope you all have a great week! see you here next time!
