Best of MI...Dear Design Diary...Windsor Smith...

This is from January 2011 and I loved this issue of House Beautiful for featuring this gorgeous home of Windsor's.  I love dipping into my archives, of which there is so much to choose from!  I have been blogging for a long time now.  Hope you all have a great day and thanks for stopping by!!

************************************************************************

The last issue of House Beautiful had a couple of standouts for me...I know you love Windsor Smith and I just couldn't help going back to look at a couple of her rooms again and again. Her use of color, texture and fabrics just blend together so well and makes me want to redesign my living room and bedroom following her aesthetic:

The living room features an overall silver and white color scheme with hand painted de Gournay wallpaper that is just lovely. Notice the different textures (coffee table, chandelier, silk pillows) and the navy blue doors in the hallway...I think the white sofas give the room a more relaxed feel, making this space an expert mix of glamorous and casual chic...

Well, Peter Dunham is one big reason I love this room - that is his fabric and wallpaper - 'Samarkand' and I love the bed matching the wall! Note the metal bed, lantern, Moroccan pouf and wicker chair - so stunning! So, Dear Design Diary...make my wish come true and redo my rooms like these please!!!

Best of MI...Rafael de Cardenas...

I absolutely love this designer's work and was so taken with the purple in this design, I think you will be too, even if its not your favorite. He used textures, sparkles and glamour to up the beauty quotient in this spectacular New York apartment.  What do you like? Do you love the purple? Would you use it or would you use a different color?  Happy Sunday!!

BEST OF MI FROM 2010:

When I first saw this designer featured in the October 2008 Elle Decor, I couldn't believe how beautiful purple could look. Never my favorite color, that all changed upon viewing this gorgeous apartment in New York. I was blown away by the colors, mid-century modern furniture, vintage wallpaper and unusual accessories. I studied the pictures for every detail. Take a look at these photos and tell me which one is your favorite!

Vintage wallpaper and a 60's vintage Italian lamp above...

The living room features a vintage sofa found on eBay, vintage '50's armchairs with Donghia fabric, vintage lucite and glass coffee table (LOVE!) and a '50's floor lamp. What a wonderful mix of fabrics in here too.

More vintage wallpaper and chaise and a stool by Marcel Wanders for Kartell.

For me, the foyer sets the tone of the apartment with the designer's own mural, a Dorothy Draper lamp and mid-century side table. The chair is circa 1940's. Look at that fabric!

For something completely different as far as color goes, the master bedroom features more vintage wallpaper from Secondhand Rose in New York, a vintage Florence Knoll bench and quilts from Calypso Home.
Do you like purple in a scheme? Do you like the way the designer used wallpaper?

BEST OF MI...January 2011

Welcome!  How are you doing on this winter Saturday?  Still doing my Best of series and today I want to know if you like matching wallpaper to curtains and fabrics? Would you do this in your home? Do you like the look or do you prefer different patterns? Lots of questions so please take a look and let me know!! Have a great weekend!

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

What do you think about matching patterns of wallpaper and curtains or furniture fabrics and wallpaper? Do you like it? I rounded up some photos to see the effect and I think it can be quite stunning depending on the patterns or colors.  A couple of the pictures you have seen here recently by Windsor Smith...

I love this bedroom - it gives this room importance to a stunning effect...

I quite like this as well...the pretty pattern in soft gray adds drama to the dining room...

I have been a bit remiss in posting this week, but I am finding time a precious commodity.  Here are three innovative items I came across this week that I wanted to share with you.  If you are thinking of renovating a bathroom, adding to a kitchen or just looking for some fresh new wallpaper, look no further.

Lacava is an Italian luxury brand of kitchen and bath

worth the investment.

Finally, while flipping channels, I came across this great folding

what you need for extra counter space.  Plus, it folds up for
quick and easy hiding! There are other pieces in this collection
worth checking out.  Its only $139.95 ~

Wanted: Wallpapers that WOW...

I came across this fantastic website today while rambling around looking at vintage enamel sink tops...well, I can't resist great wallpaper and these patterns are a must-see. Art Deco, Mod, Vintage and Arts & Crafts never really look 'out' to me...but, maybe to some. These papers are so beautifully unique and the names really set them apart - how can you resist a paper called 'Googieland?' These all come in different colorways, so the website is definitely worth a visit. What do you think? Still in style, totally gauche or cool? For more fun, visit here.

Zenith Periwinkle

Stardust Midnight (my favorite)

Grete Sea of Green

Hi-Fi Moody Blue

Daisy Kooky Coral

Mellotron Ginchy Green

Googieland Ivory

Atomic Doodle Pink

Cyclos Golden Light

Platinum Volute

If I could paper a room, I would choose one of these retro looks...but alas, since I rent, I can't.  Thanks for visiting me and I look forward to seeing you here again tomorrow! Don't forget to follow me on TWITTER and FACEBOOK!!!

Like wallpaper for walls...

Since I rent my house, I am unable to put wallpaper on my walls. So, the next best thing is 'Urban Walls' on Etsy...I found this cool site and bought a pattern to highlight a bedroom wall. If you are looking for something totally unique, easy to apply and easy to take off (a huge bonus for renters!), then look no further - head over to Etsy.com and check it out. Great for any room, kids rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, TV room etc.

Aren't they cool? Any favorites?
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

That de Cardenas touch...

Love at first sight...again...I just got my October Elle Decor issue with the Rafael de Cardenas-designed apartment of Anthony Edwards and Jeanine Lobell (of Stila Cosmetics) and well, I'm speechless.  Anne Harwell recently featured some of these pics on her blog 'Annechovie' and I just had to post these as well, including his previous work (which I posted last spring) for model Jessica Stam. His work is so creative, fun and incredibly vibrant. I love his use of purple as we will see...above is the living room with the signature purple and vintage chairs...oh and don't miss that translucent pale green glass chandelier - it is a perfect punctuation mark for the entire room -

The Dining Room features wallpaper by Secondhand Rose, which the designer used in the Stam apartment as seen below...

The entry foyer with Venetian plaster walls in hot pink! wow! what a way to enter a home! and I love the mid-century modern looking 60's Brazilian credenza...its easy to see that Rafael used to be a fashion and production designer...he mixes styles and colors so effortlessly.

Wow! do you like these green cabinets? I'm still debating, but they are painted in Benjamin Moore's 'Bright Lime'

I think this is my favorite area...the pale green rug paired with the gorgeous chairs upholstered in Designers Guild fabric.  The rugs are Chinese Art Deco...love it all!

Here is the Jessica Stam apartment I featured a few months ago that I fell in love with...here is more wallpaper from 'Secondhand Rose' with another glass chandelier - gorgeous -

This photo is a little dark, but it is mostly purple, like the Edwards' living room with vintage chairs again...I loved the way Rafael used purple curtains to match the wall color...

A vintage chaise with gorgeous the wallpaper again...

I hope you have enjoyed these pics - do you have a favorite? do you like de Cardenas' style? or is it all too much with colors you couldn't live with? or do you LOVE it???

Spaaahhh...

Thinking of relaxing on a Monday after work...this bath looked so inviting and the wallpaper is my absolute fave from Osborne & Little (Asuka)...I love, love it...the big tub and the bit of gold fabric at the window - makes me want a new bath right now...my beloved little kitty cat had a low blood sugar episode tonight, but, after getting Karo syrup in his mouth and making sure he ate, he is thankfully, ok now (and asleep in a little box). I thought I was going to rush him to emergency...hence, the relaxing spa image...now I can breathe...
