Best of MI...Fabulous Fabric Fridays...Richard Smith...

Well, its my last Friday in my seaside cottage and I've gone for my last walk...its bittersweet for me, but on to bigger and better things now.  I thought in true fashion for a Friday, I would post one of my favorite columns about one of my favorite places in the world: England.  My mother was born in Scotland and I lived in England so it has a very special place in my heart. Not to mention aunts, cousins and friends live there so its always a vacation I want to take.  So, enjoy and have a great weekend! I will be posting from my new digs soon! Thanks for following and stopping by -

From October 2010

'Fairlight' - Richard's 17th century farmhouse

I'm sorry I'm so late with this post but I spilled hot coffee on my laptop keyboard and it stopped working! Needless to say, I purchased a keyboard that is spill-proof (!!) so it is just a quick fix until I decide to take my laptop in for some 'surgery...'  I digress...welcome to Jolly Old England for this post. Highlighting a fabulous textile designer in the UK - Richard Smith who has redone his country home and uses ALL his own fabrics to decorate...I think you will like what you see - I can't decide which room I like best...:))

Richard has designed fabrics for F. Schumacher and Warner Fabrics...

I love all of the rooms, but the turquoise linen fabric in the dining room and these curtains above are particularly beautiful...Richard has done different collections for 'No. 9 Thompson' and you can see more here.  Since living in England, I have a soft spot for all things British and of course, British design.  Thank you for spending a little time with me this week and I hope you all have a great weekend!! I have something special for you next week so please stop in again! xx :))

Mother's Day gift ideas...from NOVICA...

Hello and Happy Sunday!  I have a special treat for you from Novica, which is a new site to shop for goods made around the world in association with National Geographic

When I was little, I used to love reading National Geographic because it gave me insight into other cultures and people around the world. This was where I first learned about Mt. Everest and the Himalayas. Where I learned about people living in Africa with different customs, clothes, food and jewelry. Places with no cars, telephones, TV's or books.  Novica is a unique marketplace where artisans from around the world can showcase their creations in one place, and give us, the consumers, a real connection to where its from, and more importantly, who crafted it, whether jewelry, furniture, handbags or art. Each item includes a full story and history of the artisan.

I have chosen some great items for Mom, or birthday, or gift for someone that you may need. I have been on the lookout for unique handbags, and I think I found what I'm looking for. Rather than buy a handbag from Macy's that was made in China, I would rather buy a one of a kind from an artisan who is trying to make a living in a remote part of the world.  Here are some gift ideas:

Please note that all of these are available with FREE GIFT WRAP!!

Gorgeous sterling silver pendant - Modern Heart necklace - $38.99

Best of MI...Dear Design Diary...design match

BEST OF MI...January 2011

Welcome!  How are you doing on this winter Saturday?  Still doing my Best of series and today I want to know if you like matching wallpaper to curtains and fabrics? Would you do this in your home? Do you like the look or do you prefer different patterns? Lots of questions so please take a look and let me know!! Have a great weekend!

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

What do you think about matching patterns of wallpaper and curtains or furniture fabrics and wallpaper? Do you like it? I rounded up some photos to see the effect and I think it can be quite stunning depending on the patterns or colors.  A couple of the pictures you have seen here recently by Windsor Smith...

I love this bedroom - it gives this room importance to a stunning effect...

I quite like this as well...the pretty pattern in soft gray adds drama to the dining room...

Is this something you have done in your own home or for clients? Do share! and has the client been happy with the result?

(images and designs as noted above)

Do you love the way your home looks? If not, contact me at monacointeriors76@yahoo.com to create new space that makes you happy.  I am accepting online projects both large and small.
