Headboards...comfort vs. style...

I currently have no headboard for my bed so when I read, I simply rest on two pillows.  I am trying to figure out what I want to do to make the wall look pretty.  I went to my Pinterest 'Bedrooms' board for some much needed inspiration.  I like all the options including mirrors, artwork and a vintage metal fence.  The truth is, you can do just about anything, including a closet!  Probably not very comfortable for reading though.  I am thinking about painting the wall a color or decorating with decals.  Any preference?

They all look comfy, except the closet -you
still need lots of pillows to rest your back.
Which do you prefer - comfort or style?

WOW! This is new...INC bedding collection

I found some GREAT bedding at Macy's and didn't realize that the clothing design company 'INC' has created a new home bedding collection.  This collection called 'Bloom' is particularly sophisticated- I couldn't find other pictures except these two.  What do you think? Will you buy these for a client or your own home?

I love the mix of white with the colors and the black
and white - very elegant

A night view still looks great and the furry pillow adds
texture -

These look fresh and modern to me, and gives a
designer lots of options to mix colors.

Have a great day!

Yellow + white = Gorgeous Bedroom

I have been remiss in posting this week as I have a few things going on and I'm taking a blogging class! But, because its so cold here in Downeast Maine, I thought it would be a good idea to post this gorgeous yellow in a dreamy bedroom to remind you that spring is, in fact, coming very soon...when, who knows? But until then, I want to look at bright colors. Enough of the black, grey, maroons and browns - its over!! So let's think spring and move forward!! Happy Sunday!!

What do you LOVE about this room? What don't
you love? Would you use these colors in your bedroom?

Gotta have these...! (on a budget)

Here are my picks for this week's items that I gotta have, but, on a budget.

I will be honest with you - I am tired of seeing decorating items to buy in sleek magazines that just cost too much money. Not many people have $1,000 to drop on a sofa, let alone any other piece of furniture. Re-use pieces, paint them, decorate them, anything you can do to recycle will cost you far less money. So, I thought I would highlight items from big box stores - K-Mart, Wal-Mart and Target. You can find virtually anything for your home and it doesn't have to cost the earth. Good taste is good taste is good taste, no matter what. So, tell me, do you agree?  Does it seem like magazines are pushing really expensive items in the middle of a deep recession?

A great big red clock available at Target for $28.34 -
this is a price cut -

This gorgeous graphic comforter set from K-Mart is available
in both Full and Queen for $29.99 - and it is on trend -

Ok, this is my favorite - a PINK SLIM TV! This is available
in pink, white and purple for $209.98 - it is 32" and at
just 2" it is ultra slim. I have wanted a white TV for ages -
who wouldn't love to get rid of the black 'carbunkle'  TV (as I
call it) dominating your living room??

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend
on home decor items.  It is no wonder thrift, consignment and second hand
stores are doing so well right now, especially in the Northeast US.  Next week,
we'll explore other big box stores and what they have to offer for any
budget.

Let me know your thoughts - thanks for stopping by!

Before + after window in the cottage...

I am trying to make some little changes here in my little home and thought I would share one with you. First, I need a little more privacy, so I bought a 72" matchstick blind for $15.00 - I have to be a big bargain hunter these days...I love the look and although its not a 'black-out' blind, it adds some great texture and a little privacy to the room:

Windows before:

Please excuse the air con but I need it!
I just have some sweet little valances on the windows;
I painted this room last year with a warm white from
Sherwin Williams -the walls had been a pale blue -

Window After:

The reason I love these blinds is that they don't require any
work other than slamming a nail in the wall with a
hammer, which is about all I can do...notice my
kitty Scooter checking the new look out!
I leave them up about halfway all the time and they look great.

Do you love adding texture to a room? Have you tried these matchstick
blinds in your home?

Orange + white = a little different..

This color scheme struck me as a little bit different from the usual...completely fresh and modern looking to me.  Both rooms are so simply designed with all white, but the impact is big. What do you think? Like? Dislike?

Gorgeous touch of orange, just the right amount...;-))

Its supposed to snow tomorrow!!

I spy with my little eye...

I used to play this game with my Mom when I was little to guess what item in a room someone was thinking of. Well, you won't have to guess what I'm thinking when you see this gorgeous piece for the bedroom. As some of you may know, I have brought orange and turquoise into my bedroom - I painted an old dresser orange, painted my bedside tables pale turquoise, put 'Urban Walls' up to jazz up the wall behind my bed and bought a turquoise comforter from Target, which brings me to this point.  When I saw this, I had that, 'oh, why didn't I buy that?' moment...

Dream a little dream...

Since I feel sleepy and its almost time for some zzzz's, this lovely bedroom caught my eye. The light colors, wood, curtains and fabrics on both beds is so calming. Perfect for when you've had a particularly busy day don't you think?

New lampshade...

I have finally replaced my red lampshade in my bedroom, which I liked, but, since painting a couple of tables a spa blue color and putting 'Urban Walls' decals up, it was time for a color change. What do you think?

BEFORE:

Sorry, you can only just see it here, but...

AFTER -

Voila! the new shade...very pretty! It was a steal at Target for $10.00!!

I love it!

Have a great Friday!!

Transforming the bedroom part 2...

Here is the other cabinet I painted in Sherwin Williams' beautiful 'Spa' and placed on the other side of the bed. It is now a pale blue/turquoise riot in the bedroom! I absolutely love it and have purchased some new curtains I will be showing you soon. Have a great weekend!

You can see how 'tatty' this looks before...

After the primer...

Spa!

It was so sunny, I hope I captured the beautiful blue!

I will be changing the red lampshade...

New wall, new comforter, new blue side tables...

The dark pillow covers are actually navy blue, but they look black in photos...

Close up...that's my husband's stuff in there...sorry it isn't cleaner...

The soothing blue view...

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Don't forget to follow me on TWITTER and find me on FACEBOOK!!

Transforming a bedroom...

I spent most of yesterday afternoon painting an old cabinet I decided to add as a bedside table instead of one I don't like that we are using. I have now painted both bedside tables as well as a small L.L. Bean table in Sherwin Williams' gorgeous robin's egg blue called 'Spa.'  I still have more work to do as I need new curtains, a new lampshade, new rug and will be replacing one desk with another and painting it orange. I will also be painting a bureau orange. I can't wait but it is all one step at a time. Here is the first bedside table and little plant stand:

I love this cabinet but it was a strange color - kind of tan and white...purchased for about $20 a few years ago...

Here it is on the back deck ready for painting...notice the funny little bun feet...

Ahhh, primer...

I didn't bother painting the inside...it started raining so it got moved to the basement, where I finished it over the past week, including the bun feet.

The little L.L. Bean plant table...

Voila! the beautiful new blue cabinet!

I love how it looks now...its been given a new life...

And there in the corner, the L.L.Bean table in blue too...

Hope you are all having a great week out there in blogland...I will have more transformation pictures this week!  Don't forget that you can also follow me on TWITTER and join me on my new FACEBOOK page...thanks for visiting me!

Budget makeover 101...

I seriously need to update my bedroom and have a few ideas...I want to do this on a budget - under $150 so this is my challenge. The bedroom is blue and white with a touch of orange...I moved the rug in the above pic to the bedroom a month ago, so it sits on top of a neutral carpet.

I would like to replace my blue checked curtains for something more geometric and modern...perhaps orange or blue??

I have a bureau I bought from a neighbor's yard sale for $3 - it is blue and white, but its kind of a mess - a mishmash of color...(not the above bureau, this is a soft shabby chic pink) -

I fell in love with the Sherwin Williams paint (Harmony 'Rejuvenate) in Tobi Fairley's green room she recently designed (I featured it last week)...so, I am thinking of painting the bureau this color...

I spotted similar lamps to these in Marshall's...:)

Or, I could paint the bureau this lovely turquoise on the desk above...I can't decide...I have Van Gogh's famous painting of his bedroom with an orange bed above my bed, so I would like to add orange elsewhere in the room...

What do you think? should the bureau be orange or turquoise? should I find some turquoise curtains for the windows? Or keep the blue and white checked curtains? I would love to hear what you all think...have a great day!
