Hello blog world!  I wanted to post a friendly reminder (which I have never done) that I do offer design services by email as does the whole design world!  I have named my service, 'VirtualDecor' instead of e-design.

Its a new year, so, if you are feeling the need to refresh your kitchen or bath or just need some help redesigning a room, I can help.  I will be working on a bathroom project soon, but, would like to keep busy and help someone make a beautiful space.  This service allows you to go at your own pace while making decisions and planning your shopping.

7 Top Ideas for Being Crafty and Playful for the Bedroom

Make your bedroom fun and cheerful by getting creative and crafty!

Unique lighting

Invest in some unique lighting for your bedroom. Create your own unusual lamp shades, designed to cast pools of light and shade on your walls, or even featuring cut out circles, triangles and other shapes. Light does not have to be standard white light anymore, there are colour LED lights on sale at most hardware and home furnishing stores. These allow you to 'paint' with coloured light, creating a wonderfully playful effect in your bedroom.

Wall Art

Wall art no longer refers to just paintings, and photographs. You can find or make 3D pieces of art for your room. Once finished and installed on the wall these textured pieces can give a room a wonderful depth, making them excellent for brightening up plain or dull walls. Many shops sell 3D artworks, but they are relatively easy to make, with paper mache, paint and patience! For wall art and wall stickers I always prefer Wall Stickers website or Urban Walls.

Bean Bags are In!

Bean bags are all the rage this season for stylish yet quirky bedrooms. Invest in a ready-made bean bag in colours that match your bedroom, or make your own using remnant fabric and polystyrene pellets. You can even find a storage bean bag that you fill yourself, with clothes that you do not need at present – for example summer clothes in the winter!

DIY Furniture

Purchase some modular furniture and have fun rearranging every day! This furniture looks like giant-sized building blocks and you can endlessly make and remake your furniture configuration, changing the look as many times as you like! Modular furniture adds a delightfully fun and childlike air to any room, making it great for all ages, from toddler to pensioner!

Faces It All

It may sound ridiculous but put faces on your furniture! Large stickers, self-adhesive googly eyes or even carefully drawn or painted faces instantly brighten up any room, adding a touch of whimsy to the atmosphere. Even the back of your bedroom door is a great place for a crafty face as you will be the one who sees it the most – almost as your bedroom is looking out for you and watching over you as you rest and sleep! For comfortable bedding options my utmost personal favorite is Yorkshire Linen Company's website.

Food Inspirations

Delicious cupcakes, velvety chocolate and even colourful pizza can all be part of your bedroom! Not only can you get your bedding covered in pictures of your favourite foodstuff, you can even find cupcake storage units, chocolate table and chairs and even pizza and lollipop cushions! While perhaps not the best idea if you are trying to diet, food-based décor is very popular at the moment, especially with teenage girls and young women.  The photo below is one example:

Neon Geometric Designs

Bright neon colours and unusual geometric shapes are perfect to add difference to any room. Make or buy funky lampshades, angular furniture and distinctive bedroom accessories. If this sounds a little too dramatic for your tastes, you can still add that unique mystique to your bedroom by choosing vibrant and unusually patterned bedding! With the great range of styles and fabrics available you are sure to find the perfect playful look that will make your bedroom pop!

Monaco Interiors SHOP NOW OPEN!!

Hello and welcome to the grand opening of my little blog shop! I have listed 5 items and hope you will stop by and see what's for sale.  I will be adding more items this week, but, wanted to carefully choose what I am offering for the opening of the store today.

On another note, I went for two walks on the beach both yesterday and today so I am posting pics. I find the beach endlessly inspirational as I wrote last week.

My design services are now complete with what I offer as well, so if you click on 'Services' I have included pricing with PayPal to make it easy for clients.

Looking forward to another episode tonight of 'Once Upon a Time' though the writers are getting a bit away from the original story and I'm hoping it won't go the route of 'Lost' - I couldn't continue that show after the second season, as it became wacky.

This is exciting...+ a glimpse of England...

I don't usually blow any horns here about my humble little corner of the internet universe, but I was approached to have my blog featured on a 'Best of the Web' series for Be @Home Best of the Web Series. Interior design office reception area...

This is one of my favorite designs from my Portfolio, which I have spent some time adding to my blog this morning. I love the colors and honestly wish I had this office! It is hot and muggy here in New England with passing thunderstorms. I have the day off so I will be running some errands this afternoon. Have a great day! Spring fever...

Inspired by the many bloggers out there who change up their decor regularly, it got me motivated to switch up my decor yesterday (hence, the spring fever!). I was tired of the color scheme and went "shopping" for my own stuff in storage! I changed rugs, paintings, pillows, a lampshade, curtains and tables. I had such fun doing it! I will also be moving house in August and will get to do a whole new scheme in a new home! I can't wait. So here is the finished product, the last photo is the old scheme heavy with reds and yellows. For the new look with new colors, I added my grandmother's blue 1920's Art Deco rug. I wanted the room to be lighter and prettier with blues, yellows and whites with just a little bit of red.

The new lampshade on the left (used to be a dark floral) and the art above the sofa with mostly pale blues...gone are the red and yellow art deco posters...

My painted yellow table (I painted it last summer) used to be over with the red chair, colorful leather poufe, IKEA chair and new silver lamp...

The previous decor with colorful rug, art deco posters, red pillows and dark lampshade. You can't see the leopard print curtains, which were darker as well. I've switched those out to a light cream color - much brighter now!

There is another rug you can't see that is sisal - much lighter than the other red rug that was there. The whole room feels redone, lighter and brighter and just has a different 'feel' to it. I moved the rug above to my bedroom and it looks great. I may still replace both lampshades and buy some new pillows for the sofa. Do you get tired of your decor and change it up regularly? I highly recommend it! If you do make changes, what are they?
