Chair Refurbish...

I thought I would post a chair rehab I did using an old chair I bought and painted white (first painted orange, which was hideous and then blue).  I was living in Maine and visited a now-defunct Maine Cottage showroom and bought some fabric I used to cover the seat.

It is my favorite rehab as I've painted a lot of furniture in the past.

Decorate your walls...with prints on canvas...

Decorating Your Walls With Prints On Canvas

Home decor is one of those projects that never seem to end. Just when we think every aspect is covered, a sense of inconformity arises regarding a special wall or corner. Naked spaces can be covered with paintings, prints on canvas or wall graphics, depending on the available space. While some people proudly display renowned artists’ pieces, there is a growing trend to take a personal design or photo and turn it into a custom canvas print. What may have started as an affordable decorating practice, is now a personal expression to add your ‘magic touch’ to your own space.

Here are some reasons why you should consider prints on canvas as your next wall accessory.

They fit your vision

Custom Canvas Photo Prints leave you no reason to settle for an ‘OK’ wall piece. If you have been actively involved in your home decor project, then you probably want every detail to be perfect. Whether you’ve found a design online or taken your own photo, prints on canvas is an option to display it.

They are affordable

Low in cost but high in value! A simple photo taken from your Smartphone can be much more meaningful to you than any famous painting. Quality does not have to be directly related to high prices. Make your personality show in your home decor and no one will be thinking of the bills you must have paid.

They are easy to make

There is no difficulty in getting your custom photo canvas print. All you have to do is find a high quality image or photo, choose the printing size that best suits the space you’re decorating and order it from your favorite professional printing company. Most of these companies provide image requirements in advance so customers can avoid disappointing results.

They are easy to replace

Let’s face it, even if you have spent hours looking for the best image and you think it’s absolutely perfect, you could easily get bored with it. Replacing it with new prints on canvas is not a big problem because it’s not expensive or a hard service to find.

Give it a try and jump on the DIY home decor train. The worst that can happen is that you don’t like it and put it away. But if the experiment succeeds, you will be hooked on a new printing project.

Let us know how it goes!

Best of MI...shabby + chic = GORGEOUS!

Hello fellow bloggers! How are things in your new 2013 world today? I hope you are well! Continuing with my 'Best of' series, I wanted to include a post on the lovely shabby chic aesthetic and Pinterest is a fabulous place for constant inspiration for this and many, many other fashion, design, art etc. aesthetics.   This was a post from 2011 so grab a cup of tea, glass of wine or water and enjoy!  ;-))

Are you at a loss as to where to put that shabby and worn out dresser, table, chair or bureau?  Well, look no further than these pics showing a piece of shabby furniture in rooms with different aesthetics. The look of these worn items mixed in with other pieces is fabulous and timeless. Its such a classic look that you can experiment with and see how it fits. These pics are from one of my favorite boards on PINTEREST - are you following me there yet? Do you love?

Each piece is unique and looks so right - I especially love this
kitchen cupboard - just the right amount of paint is gone.

Have a great rest of the weekend! Hope you are inspired to
start a new project!

Tour my cottage...

I recently downsized from a 2,000+ square foot home to a little over 600 feet of living space. With this change, I had to get rid of a lot of furniture, stuff, lamps, knick-knacks, clothes, shoes, handbags...well, you get the idea.  It was a very cathartic experience and I am currently living in about two rooms. I had most of the furniture here, all I brought were my two favorite rugs,  (from my mother and grandmother) a chair, two ottomans and some pillows. Welcome to my little cottage by the lake!!:

Living room rug my mother gave me -

Bedroom vignette with shabby dresser bought for $95
and Anne Harwell print -

Sitting room (and guest room) with Chinese art deco rug that belonged to my
grandmother, $69 IKEA chair, vintage leather stool, fabric throw
from Israel and Scooter the cat
sleeping...;-))

Hallway with IKEA mirrors bought years ago, vintage sign...

View into the living room with a wicker chair bought for $10 and
painted bright yellow by me...

Hallway with Scooter who wants to go out...;-)) the floor
is brick -

Reflection in vintage mirror I painted yellow...settee bought
at vintage store for $125 -

Rug details...curtains from JC Penney bought years ago...they are
blue + white check -

Print by Gray Harwell and a thrift store mirror -

(images by me)

My favorite plants and view out the kitchen window - woods
and more woods - perfect for 'serenity now!' - a view of
woods is supposed to be great 'Feng Shui' -

I painted the cottage white and added lots of yellow, blue and
turquoise...gorgeous colors that I love to live with -

Thanks for joining me on my little cottage tour - I didn't make the
photos look too 'glamorous' or stage it too much, so you will
notice shoes, a wire and a box for Scootie to sleep in - ;-0

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!!

New lampshade...

I have finally replaced my red lampshade in my bedroom, which I liked, but, since painting a couple of tables a spa blue color and putting 'Urban Walls' decals up, it was time for a color change. What do you think?

BEFORE:

Sorry, you can only just see it here, but...

AFTER -

Voila! the new shade...very pretty! It was a steal at Target for $10.00!!

I love it!

Have a great Friday!!

That 70's look...

Just a couple of pix of my home...specifically my bathroom with the 70's shower curtain and mirror purchased at Target on sale for $5! The mirror is a perfect match for the curtain don' you think? I also moved my IKEA chair back to the living room under a Gray Harwell painting (Amalfi print) I purchased from Anne Harwell at Annechovie. I love the new corner now as it was messy and unattractive with bad 'Feng Shui' and just needed a clear out.  Do you have corners and places with lots of stuff that needs to get cleaned? Do it! You'll feel better!!

The mirror with the curtain in the reflection...

That 70's curtain!

I have orange and purple towels to match...

IKEA chair with Gray Harwell painting above and my repainted yellow table I did last year...for more information about Gray Harwell and Anne's paintings go here - I own several prints from Anne and just love her work.

Hope you all have a great week!! I will be taking a break next weekend and getting a change of scenery for a much needed respite for the holiday. I really can't wait to get away...what are your plans for the 4th of July?

Yellow...love...

I painted my little table awhile ago, but thought I would post pics again because I love it. It looks great in my living room now with my blue scheme, where previously red was featured.  It is such a happy color, and looks great with just about any other colors and decor.

Priming the table for the yellow paint...

Voila! transformed...

In the new scheme, though I have made changes since this was taken...

The more traditional red and yellow...table in the foreground...

New wall treatment...!

Yesterday, as I had "Nights in Rodanthe" playing on the TV with Richard Gere and Diane Lane, I decided to get cracking on my new wall treatment from "Urban Walls."  Because I rent my house, I can't put up wallpaper but wanted to make one wall in my bedroom a focal point. So, here is my project in steps:

First, I dusted the wall; excuse the mess in the pictures, I had emptied out a drawer in my bedside table, which is another project in progress that I will show you another day...

Clean wall to the right of the bed...

And clean wall to the left of the bed...

I cut out all the shapes (24 of the large and 36 small, I think) so I could prep them with tape on the wall...

I pretty much randomly decided where they would go. I didn't have as many of the larger shapes, so I decided to put the smaller shapes all over in between - if that makes sense, but you will see...

Here is the right wall with the shapes taped on temporarily.

Another shot of the temporary shapes taped to the walls...

So, during the movie I removed the backing carefully, stuck it on the wall, and then gently pulled the top piece off after smoothing with a credit card...

Voila!! the finished product! Once the backing is removed, the dark turquoise blue really stands out against the pale wall (which is not white, but more of a creamy white) -

I LOVE the way it looks! like wallpaper!
Fuzzy shot...

I decided to put the "Keep Calm" poster back and love the way it looks surrounded by the 'stars' -

I have more work to do in here...I need new lamps and I'm in the process of painting some furniture that will remain in the room. I also need a new comforter and new curtains - IKEA has the curtains I am lusting after...but, it may be a week or two before I can get there - by the way, I liked the movie and love how my wall looks!! Best of all, these can come off the wall with no damage whatsoever. I found 'Urban Walls' on Etsy through Jen's blog, Made by Girl.  I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend!!
